Active Therapeutic Movement

Bolduc Physical / Aquatic Therapy & Sports Medicine in Boynton Beach and Coconut Creek, Florida is excited to offer the ATM®2 machine, a revolutionary advancement in rehabilitative care. This piece of equipment is basically an upright treatment table for the management of pain, muscle imbalances, and mechanical dysfunction of the neck, shoulder, back, hip, and knee. It enables patients to transition from a previously painful range of motion to one that is pain free.

How It Works

Injuries can cause muscle imbalances, which compromise body mechanics and lead to poor structural alignment, decreased range of motion, and pain. Active Therapeutic Movements (ATMs) affect the way the central nervous system controls muscle activation patterns by retraining muscles and eliminating muscle imbalances (also known as neuromuscular re-education).

Once you are positioned and stabilized with the machine’s belting system in a functional weight-bearing position, you will perform up to 10 pain-free repetitions against a resistance that will hold your body close to the upright position. During these repetitions, your central nervous system is memorizing the pain-free movement.

Benefits of Active Therapeutic Movements:

  • Increases range of motion
  • Decreases or eliminates pain
  • Stabilizes ligaments, tendons, and muscles
  • Improves strength

After just one session, you can experience immediate and long-lasting results! The same movements performed without the machine will be pain-free, or your pain will have decreased significantly. You will also notice remarkable improvement in your range of motion.

Repeated sessions on the ATM®2 will further re-educate the muscles by reinforcing the pain-free movements, which results in long-term relief.
