Soft Tissue and Joint Mobilization

Soft tissue mobilization plays a very important role in the successful recovery of an upper extremity injury or rehabilitation following a surgical procedure. Our therapists apply hands-on soft tissue mobilization to help prevent the buildup of scar tissue that can limit movement.  Joint mobilization is a hands-on technique that stimulates circulation and helps keep muscles at the proper length.

Our physical therapists use soft tissue and joint mobilization as an important element of an individualized treatment plan to help relieve pain, decrease swelling, restore motion, and increase function.

Pre- and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

The hand, elbow, and shoulder are composed of a delicate network of blood vessels, nerves, muscles, and soft tissues. The disruption of any of these networks can cause pain, affect movement, and limit function.

Pre- or post-surgery, physical therapy is vitally important for preventing and reducing stiffness, swelling, pain, and limited motion. Rehabilitation exercises can help increase strength, endurance, motion, balance, and coordination so that you can perform your favorite activities as independently as possible. Our physical therapists focus on the functional goals that are important to you.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

The shoulder, arm, and hand are especially vulnerable to injury during sports that require contact, repetitive motions, throwing, and catching. For the injured athlete or weekend warrior, sports injury rehabilitation can help the recovery process.

Our physical therapists will use hands-on techniques and therapeutic modalities to help increase circulation and reduce pain and swelling. Our physical therapists will show you how to optimize strength, agility, and performance to get you back in the game. We will also teach you how to prevent similar injuries in the future.

Therapeutic Exercise

Exercise therapy for upper extremity injuries is highly individualized and specific to the type of shoulder, elbow, or hand injury. Our physical therapists will create a specific exercise plan just for you. As you progress, they will upgrade your therapeutic exercise plan to challenge your capabilities. Exercise therapy can help improve flexibility, strength, and coordination to improve functional use following an injury or upper extremity orthopedic condition.

Modalities

Infrared, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and hot or cold treatments are modalities that can help relax muscles, stimulate muscles, increase range of motion, and reduce pain. Our therapists incorporate modalities with hands-on treatment and exercise to enhance the therapeutic effect.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is used to help stimulate and improve circulation, relieve pain and stiffness, and improve flexibility and range of motion during the treatment of shoulder/elbow/hand. Our professional therapeutic massages is tissue specific and may be preceded or followed by other types of therapy for enhanced results.

Braces and Splints

Braces and splints are used to position, support, and protect a joint while it heals. Splints are commonly used following elbow or hand surgery or injury. Shoulder harnesses and supports can help support the arm and relieve pain while healing takes place. In some cases, splints or braces may be worn to provide support or positioning during select activities.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy is defined by the Guide to Physical Therapy practice as "the skilled passive movement to a joint and/or related soft tissues at varying speeds and amplitudes." Our therapists have experience with soft tissue mobilization as well as joint manipulation/mobilization in order to restore range of motion and function and assist in decreasing pain and limitations. Some of our therapists have undergone rigorous training to become Manual Therapy Certified (MTC) in order to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills to better treat patients and return them to their prior level of function.

Get Moving Again with Aquatic Therapy

Our pool therapy reduces pressure on joints to provide greater mobility and decrease pain, which increases flexibility for a faster recovery. If you have an injury or condition that makes weight-bearing exercise too painful or risky, then aquatic therapy is the ideal way to begin the rehabilitation process and get moving again.
