Everyone experiences pain in their own unique way and heals differently, which is why our therapists will address your rehabilitation on an individual basis to ensure your needs are met. Your orthopedic rehabilitation plan may include a variety of physical therapy treatments, such as:

Orthopedic conditions treated include:

  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Overuse injuries
  • Fractures
  • Post-surgical rehab
  • Sports injuries
  • Joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder)
  • Neck and back pain
  • Shoulder and elbow injuries
  • Hand and wrist injuries
  • Hip and knee injuries
  • Foot and ankle injuries
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Muscle weakness
  • TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders

Physical therapy treatments include:

Soft Tissue and Joint Mobilization
During soft tissue and joint mobilization, our physical therapists use hands-on techniques to help relieve pain, restore motion, and increase function. This hands-on technique can be especially helpful following injuries in which muscle spasms or tightening has occurred.
Pre- and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Doctors may prescribe physical therapy prior to surgery to prepare muscles and joints for recovery. Following surgery, our therapists use therapeutic exercise, modalities, and other components of physical therapy, such as aquatic therapy, to increase strength, endurance, motion, balance, and coordination for functional independence.

Aquatic Therapy

Pool therapy reduces pressure on joints to provide greater mobility and decrease pain, which increases flexibility for a faster recovery. Because the water provides support for weight-bearing joints, treatment can begin sooner.

Gait Training

Gait training focuses on safe walking and preventing falls. Therapeutic exercises involving the hip, knee, ankle, and toe joints help improve endurance, motion, balance, flexibility, and coordination.

Sports Injury Rehabilitation

The shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle joints are especially vulnerable to injury during sports that require repetitive motions, resistance to forces, and impact. Physical therapy can help heal injured joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Rehabilitation following surgery can help facilitate an optimize recovery and return an athlete to his or her sport safely. Our physical therapists will also teach you how to prevent injuries in the future.

Therapeutic Exercise
Therapeutic exercise facilitates recovery from an injury or surgery and helps the body function at a higher level of efficiency. Exercise therapy can help decrease pain and improve flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, balance, and posture. Therapeutic exercise can also help athletes attain peak performance and reduce the chance of injuries.
Modalities

Infrared, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and hot or cold treatments are modalities that can help relax muscles, stimulate muscles, increase range of motion, and reduce the risk of future joint injuries.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is used to help stimulate and improve circulation, relieve pain and stiffness, and improve flexibility and range of motion for joint-related problems from sports injury.

Spinal Decompression

Cervical and lumbar decompression is a non-surgical, traction-based therapy that enables patients to achieve relief from severe acute or chronic neck and back pain by gently reducing the pressure within cervical and lumbar discs.

Active Therapeutic Movements

Active Therapeutic Movements (ATMs) can help manage pain and mechanical dysfunction of the neck, shoulder, back, hip, and knee by retraining muscles and eliminating muscle imbalances (also known as neuromuscular re-education). It enables patients to transition from a previously painful range of motion to one that is pain free.

Braces and Splints

Braces and splints are used to position a joint while it heals or support a joint during motion. Advances in the field have resulted in the largest variety of dynamic and static braces and splints than ever before. Ask your physical therapist about which braces and splints are the most appropriate for all of your favorite activities.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy is defined by the Guide to Physical Therapy practice as "the skilled passive movement to a joint and/or related soft tissues at varying speeds and amplitudes." Our therapists have experience with soft tissue mobilization as well as joint manipulation/mobilization in order to restore range of motion and function and assist in decreasing pain and limitations. Some of our therapists have undergone rigorous training to become Manual Therapy Certified (MTC) in order to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills to better treat patients and return them to their prior level of function.
